About Me

My gardening approach is based on the idea that form follows function in residential landscapes. What do YOU need your yard to do for YOU? Most folks are looking for a beautiful yet relatively low-maintenance place to relax, to play, and to entertain family and friends. For the past 15+ years, I've emphasized environmentally appropriate design and maintenance techniques for a variety of settings, whether urban or suburban. Increasing backyard biodiversity is my specialty! Some accomplishments and practical experience over the years include—

  • Designed residential landscapes while employed by a large-scale landscaping contractor. Met with clients on a wide variety of jobs—everything from minor renovations to complete scrape-offs—and handled the inevitable snafus. Ordered plants and materials, and supervised up to 12 crewmembers and subcontractors during installation of designs.

  • Designed gardens for two fund-raising “Dream Houses” and interned at the famous Test Gardens at Sunset Magazine.

  • Worked at plant nurseries and garden centers in Columbus, OH and Oakland, CA.

  • Currently a volunteer gardener at OSU's Master Gardener Program, Chadwick Arborteum & Learning Gardens and  LOUA (Lower Olentangy Urban Arboretum).

Tisa listened to all my concerns, fears, visions, and preferences for my large back yard and came up with a wonderful plan including all sorts of drought-friendly plants, some fruit trees, raised planter boxes for vegetables, a fire pit, and a shed.  She gave me tips on what to do first and broke it all up in stages since I couldn’t afford to do it all at once. Tisa recommended parts I could easily do myself and advised on the things I should definitely get others to do. I can't wait to get my back yard looking good. Thanks Tisa!               [Anita D.]
